Today I was invited to the British Museum by Jaime Bautista from SMart Network http://smartnetwork.org.uk/ : SMart Network is a charity established in September 2000 to empower homeless and socially excluded people through creative activity and to engage them and the wider community in finding pathways to social integration. SMart Network was founded and developed by arts facilitator Jaime Bautista. Jaime has more than 30 years of experience working with severely disadvantaged people in the UK and abroad.
SMart’s philosophy is based on a model of rehabilitation through the arts. It was able to establish the model thanks to the experience of many years working with homeless and socially excluded people and using art as a main and immediate vehicle to re-engage people who, through adverse circumstances, suffer social exclusion.
The exhibition Jaime invited me and my parents to is called Life and death Pompeii and Herculaneum and I saw these silver skeletons that apparently were placed on the table at meals to remind people to enjoy life. I have since tried to find more information about this meal time ritual but have not been able to find a lot of information. So if anyones has further information please send it on.
